Literature Text

She wasn't known as much of a woman but the boys always said they'd make one out of her.  She couldn't quite shake the red out of her hair or dust the freckles from her face and the common schoolground mantra was that gingers weren't quite human.  She always said she was going to get out of this place, acted like she was too good for the inner-city school with the metal detectors and the locker searches.

Her family was a violent lot, they didn't know much in the way of humanity and treated her about the same.  She wasn't smart enough to make it anywhere, she'd have to stay and suffer in the bog and mire of poverty like the rest of them and was putting on airs by the way she acted.  Someone was going to knock her down a peg or three they said, and mommy and daddy wouldn't be there to help.

She can't quite shake the angry stares, or dodge the outstretched feet that tangle her own and make the floor rise up to slam her face.  The fist against her jaw said more than a mouth ever could and the hands that hefted her sides spoke a language of hurt and pain.  She wakes up later in a trash can and can't even remember if the sheet she's wrapped in was there before she was.

Some cop found her the next day and she's sitting in the lobby sipping coffee while she waits for DCF to come take her away.  They tell her she can find a nice family, one in a good neighborhood and a good home.  She sits there shivering, picking at her stitches as she smiles and thinks about the lawn with the green grass and the dog and the good school with no metal detectors or locker searches.
Another attempt to tell a very long story with few words.

Mission accomplished!
It's a whole lot of neat evocative phrasing and expression fitted into one damn short text. And it still seems natural, not somehow forcibly cut to size.
